What A Month

The past month has been terrible for me.

Absolutely terrible.

The house I was renting was foreclosed. I was notified 3 weeks before the house went up for auction.

Fun.

How am I supposed to find a house to live, when it was still snowy and cold and no one was moving. I flipped out on my landlord. I literally chewed her out without swearing at her. I mean, I felt like I was her piggy bank.

I was even more stressed because I had no money to move. I was scared to be homeless. Nothing makes you feel like a failure as a parent….

Thankfully, After a stressful few weeks, I found us a place to live!

My new landlord was very nice and was willing to work with us on our security deposit and first months rent until I got my tax return. Phew.

We rushed to move our stuff and got the heck out of there. Although my old landlord still hasn’t returned my security deposit. So now I am fighting with her on that and debating on taking her to court or not.

So, I plan to be back full force at this. Complete with product reviews!! I have another Natures Sleep review coming soon! YAY!

Product Review: Apologia Homeschool Planners #MosaicReviews

Please excuse the lack of pictures, I am in the middle of moving and the planner is tucked in a box. Somewhere….. :(

Every once in awhile, Life gets chaotic and things don’t go as planned. We either have stuff that some how overlaps or we forget about. Or the kids have 45138791 things that they have going on and we are expected to keep up with it.

Oh who am I kidding.

Life is chaotic all the time.

The truth is, I have always tried to remember things. Anyone who knows me personally knows that my memory is TERRIBLE. I could seriously be handed something and set it down, go back for it a couple minutes later, and not know where I just set it. I have been known to even wander around because I cannot remember what I was going to do. Hence why I need to write things down.

I was given the chance to review the Apologia Ultimate Homeschool Planner.

Now, these planners were originally designed for those who homeschool. But, I figured why not give them a shot for someone who DOESNT homeschool at all. Someone who just needs to schedule, LIFE.

I do have to say that I was intimidated by its LARGE size. But you know what, that is helpful to me because I wont loose it (hahaha). But this large size (not only do I write big) has a LOT of space to plan EVERYTHING. It is seriously amazing.

Here is a list of features that I personally LOVE:

  • Pockets! The front and back cover have pockets to store loose papers, receipts, handouts, pamphlets, etc. This is GOOD for me because if I have something planned, I can keep the information RIGHT with the planner and it is safe.
  • Family Goals: There is a section inside to write down family goals. Which I think is awesome. To many families now a days are disjointed and disconnected from each other. I love this because its documented and is always available to keep us on track.
  • Weekly Planning. There is a nice weekly planning grid. Its big and spacious so you have plenty of room to write things out. It is also fully blank so you can fill it in as you think it would work best for you. Which is good. Nothing like getting a planner that is predated. I personally hate that. I also love the inspirational quotes that are on these pages. Along with the sections to write appointments or stuff you need to get.

Now, like I said, this planner was originally designed for those who homeschool. It is easily adaptable to those who don’t. But for those that do homeschool who are reading this, will be please to know that there are lots of resources listed inside, a section to keep track of your childs grades, a yearly grid broken down by day to plan out what I believe would be a years worth of goals, a place to record field trips taken, also the weekly planning can be done to include a weekly plan for each child.

I also got to review the student planner and the teen planner. Both of my children (whom are NOT homeschooled) loved these because they looked “cool” (crazy kids)

Again, the student planner was designed for homeschoolers where the parent can write down all their tasks and the student has something to follow along with and know what assignments are coming, and are easily able to keep track of their progress by marking off assignments that are done. My daughter (whom is 10) just used it as a normal school planner and she liked it much better than the planner that her school gives her every year. Inside it has study tips & fun facts/trivia. It also has a nice durable cover with awesome spiral binding.

The Teen Planner I think was my favorite of the two kids planners. My son who is a 10th grader loved the design and the layout of it. He also used it as a normal school planner and liked it much better than the school issued planner.  This planner is very helpful to teens. It helps them keep track of not only all their assignments but also their classes/credits so that they know how many they have left for graduation. HA! What teen isn’t excited for their high school years to be over. Now they have it at a glance. Like the student planner, it also has study tips. My favorite part of this planner is the SAT words that are listed across the top of all the pages. I love that. I actually sat down and read all the words running along the top. There is also a college admissions timeline & Scholarship tips!

To say these planners are awesome is an understatement. My words seriously couldn’t do them justice because they are designed well and have so many aspects I could never dream to have at my fingers and I am so thankful to have the chance to review these products.

The Ultimate Homeschool planner is $28 and the Student & Teen planners are $19. Totally. Worth. Every. Penny! Especially if you are a hardcore homeschool. I would totally recommend these to any MOM!!

Stop the Rollar Coaster, I want Off.

As you may have noticed (or not because sometimes I feel like no on reads this), I haven’t posted anything in awhile.

Well that is because of my wonderful landlord has decided it was cool to collect rent from me for goodness knows how long and not pay her mortgage. She decided to tell me after she cashed my rent check for March that the house is being foreclosed. Stating in her email, “I am sure that you have already figured this out, but….” then she proceeds to tell me that it is going up for sheriff auction on the 9th of April.

Yeah, Thanks.

Product Review: FamilyMint Money Mangement #MosaicReviews

I recently got to review the FamilyMint Money Management program for kids. When I was confronted with this asking if I wanted to review it, I was skeptical at first because I wasn’t sure what my kids needed to worry about budgeting money for. After all, I was the parent and that was my job.

My kids do their chores and earn money from time to time depending on the chore. With this money I let them do whatever they want with it. But as my kids are getting older, they are learning that money doesn’t go as far as the think and are starting to realize that Mom isn’t always going to save them if they go over the amount of money they have.

So, after looking through this book, I realized that this wasn’t such a bad idea to teach at a young age. After all, money makes or breaks you. If you don’t budget right, you can end up screwing yourself over. I have been learning this the hard way. After having to spend the last few years on a very minimal income, I am learning that sometimes you have to be strict with yourself. Why not teach them young.

How My 2 Year Old Broke My Heart

It is known that Vanessa cannot talk. Even at 2 and a half years old, her vocabulary consists of about 5 words.

If you are lucky.

Every single day I get frustrated with her because she wants something, I don’t know what she is saying, she cries and whines and yells at me, I kind of snap back, she gets pissed more.

Rinse.

Repeat.

Daily.

Since she has gotten a new speech therapist because her old one went on maternity leave, her new therapist is really pushing her to just do letter sounds.

So, whenever she is in a good mood (which is not often), I try to squeeze some letter sounds out of her too. Along with trying to get her to say a few words. Sometimes we win. Sometimes we loose.

Mostly Loose. But Whatever.

A few weeks ago, I was laying in my bed with Vanessa and I was having her do her letter sounds. I would do a sound, she would repeat, and so on. Then I switched to animal sounds. She will only do a few such as cat (ow), dog (more of a huh huh for woof woof), cow (oo), bird (wee wee), duck (ack ack), and just within the last few days owl (oo oo). If you have a child with apraxia of speech, you know this is a BIG DEAL.

So then I decided to switch to some basic words. I don’t recall exactly what I was trying to get her to say but I do remember that I asked her to say something and she broke out crying. I asked her “Vanessa, what is wrong?” She gave me some baby mumbo jumbo. I told her “Vanessa, mommy does not know what you are saying. You need to use your words.” She gave me more mumbo jumbo like she was yelling at me and continued to cry. So I then said, “Vanessa, are you sad?” She shook her head no. “Vanessa are you mad?” She shook her head yes. I asked her “why?” More mumbo Jumbo.

Then I said, “Vanessa are you mad because you can’t talk to mommy and mommy doesn’t understand what you are saying?”

Vanessa looked at me with those big blue eyes full of crocodile tears, shook her head yes while saying “uh huh” and proceeded to cry HARD sobs.

All I could say was “Oh Baby!” and hug her and cry big crocodile tears of my own into her blonde hair while my heart shattered into a gazillion pieces.

I had no words for her because I know she is frustrated. I see it every.single.day.  But how do I comfort her. All I can do is hug her and tell her it will be ok. But how does she know it will be ok? All she knows is mom cant understand. WHY CANT MOM UNDERSTAND?

My sweet girl. I cannot wait for the day that you are talking my ear off. Hopefully it is sooner rather than later.

Product Review: Printable Blog Planner #MosaicReviews

I am not going to lie. I am probably one of the most UNORGANIZED bloggers EVER.

and I mean EVER!!!

I have the worst memory. Plus, I often suffer from severe memory loss.

Often? Who am I kidding. I have a TERRIBLE memory. Its like, so bad, that when I sit something down on the table and if I get distracted, I will not remember where I put it 2 minutes later. Its annoying.

I am part of a great new review team called Mosaic Reviews. As an “initiation” of sorts, we need to review a printable blog planner.

When I was asked to review this blog planner, I couldn’t help but jump on it. I didn’t even know there where ones that I could print on my own.

Preview of Mama Jenn's Blog Planner

Preview of Mama Jenn’s Blog Planner

We had a list of planners to choose from and I chose Mama Jenn’s simply because I liked the feel of it. And not only that, but she kind of won me over with the daisy theme. Daisies are my favorite flower so, I couldn’t pass it up. It just totally fit me.

I love the fact that there is an at-a-glance calendar and right across on the next page, there is a page to list major blog post ideas to write. Seriously! (Remember that memory I have??) This is perfect. I can quickly scribble down blog ideas right in one spot and its kept together. There is nothing like having an idea spark, and not having anywhere safe to write the idea. If you go through any random notebook in my house, there is scribble from me every.where. Then I don’t remember what notebook I wrote in. TADA! Enter, printed blog planner. I had the PDF file of this sent right to office max online and they printed it for me with an awesome bright pink cover. (Another so me thing) I am guaranteed not to loose this. (I hope).

There is also sections in each month to write down information for products you are reviewing (if you are into that kind of thing.). Which is perfect because I can have all the company information and other details in one space without having to shuffle a bazillion emails.

I have to say that I am THRILLED with this planner. And I have already put it to great, great use. I would show you pictures of my blog planner, but go figure, I lost the memory card to my camera! *SOB/FREAKOUT/CRY/TEMPERTANTRUM* I will try to figure out how to squeeze pictures in here from my phone soon!!

Would you like to get your hands on Mama Jenn’s 2013 printable (FREE) blog planner?? You can go directly to her site to read more about it by clicking the picture above. Thanks Mama Jenn for sharing this AWESOME blog planner.

App Review: SpeechBox App for iOS devices iPad & iPhone #SpeechBox

SpeechBox-Logo2501Since Vanessa has been diagnosed with Apraxia, I have been doing whatever I could to find things that would be useful or beneficial to her. I was told by the Pediatric Neurologist that saw her plus all her therapists, that it would be good for her to get her an iPad or other tablet to help her learn to communicate or help her communicate. They had also given me a list of apps to use for her since she is so interested in my iPad (and can probably work it better than me).

Lots of research has been going on for me. Trying to find causes, reasons, anything. I happened to stumble across this app. I was happily shocked to see that this app was created by a father who has a son that was diagnosed with Apraxia at 2.5 years old. His son could only make a couple small letter sounds (much like Vanessa). So, in the anxiousness of wanting to help his son, he created this app. It is available on the iPad and NOW on the iPhone.

How I Met My Father;A daughter’s open letter to the father she has never met.

If this is your first time reading these posts, please scroll to the bottom of this post to find the whole series.

Dad,

I know that you are probably confused about all of this and why I am doing this. I am sure even more confused as to why I chose this avenue about doing all of this. Don’t worry. I have already been asked a bunch of times, why online?

For me, its accountability. If I am doing this, and people are reading, I will have to follow through. I will have to finish and get out everything that I WANT to say, but have been to scared to say.

The truth is, I have always, always, always since I first saw your name in my baby book, wanted to know who you where. I wanted to see you. I wanted to love you. I wanted you to love me. I just wanted love. I wanted everything to be perfect. But it wasn’t.

Until I found you.

Procrastination

I am not going to lie. I am probably THE biggest procrastinator in the history of procrastination.

I posted my life story of sorts. And I have said on my facebook page, that I have a letter to my father to post. Well, I have it all written, but it has gotten as far as being saved as a draft. I have yet been able to push that publish button.

Fear is taking over.

I keep asking myself WHY I even started this in the first place?
